Mythbusting in progress

It was Saturday night and I abandoned by my family as they went to my sister’s award ceremony. I was sitting  at home feeling bored so I decided to turn on the TV and to my surprise, one of my favourite programs on Discovery Channel was going on, Mythbusters. This show is about 5 people experimenting about myths and proving them right or wrong. This is my favourite show as most of the myths they tried out was usually wacky. The episode I was watching was amazing about Coke and Mentos.

As most of you know, if you put Mentos inside a bottle of Coke, the Coke in the bottle will come bursting out. But what they were experimenting was if you changed Coke to another type of drink such as Pepsi, Root beer, Sprite and so on. Once I saw their first test with Pepsi, I decided that it was time I became a mythbuster myself, as I always wanted to try to do what they usual did.

I quickly ran down my house and went to the nearby mini-mart and purchased a pack of Mentos, and a few bottles of drinks to try with. Knowing that if I conducted the experiment in my house, the whole place will get messed up and I would be murdered that very night by my mother. Thus, I did it in front of my house.

Conducting the experiment was breath-taking. It was so cool.  I even took down my results in a table like they did. Also, our results were quite similar. Now, I can truly say that I have tried being a Mythbuster before, at the expense of $10 that is.

Baby Blues

Baby Blues is a set of cartoon comic strips about an average American family with a Mom, Dad, and 3 mischievous children, Zoe, Hammie and Wren. Of the 3 of them, Zoe is the oldest followed by Hammie and baby wren. The comic is basically telling a story about what hardships this American family faces. Why am I writing this, most of you must be wondering…? This is because Baby Blues is my all time favourite book in the world. Others may like “real” books where there is just words on the page but I like this book as with the pictures, the story gets to me faster and I understand it more, plus, in “real” books, there is only a description of what’s going on but in a comic book, there are pictures. Here’s a personal review of the characters in this phenomenal book.

Wanda Wizowski-MacPherson
Wanda - the Mom of this family. Wanda never thought she would be the motherly-type. However, after she got pregnant with Zoe, she traded her full time job for working as a mother to a newborn. Wanda is a complex person… being a robot, able to work, work and work, and also by being a walking calendar, as she can remember the hundreds of things she need to that day. Despite her “job”, Wanda loves her family and wouldn’t want to live any other way.
Zoe
Zoe is the first born child and now, is the proud big sister of her brother and baby sister. I feel Zoe is very cute as she wants to be a cheerleader/veterinarian/doctor/ballerina Barbie® when she grows up. It is fun to see what she and her brother are up to.
Hamish
Hamish, Hammie for short, is the middle child of the family. After being the youngest child and being bullied, Hammie is now the protector of his baby sister, Wren. Hammie is a true truck fanatic, knowing all about trucks and his first word being “bulldozer”.
Darryl
The Dad in Baby Blues is a true Dad to me. He is always there to shoo away monsters, wipe noses, or kiss a boo-boo the way a real Dad does it. It is also very funny to see how he handles situations with either Wanda or the kids.

Wren
Wren is the latest edition to this family. She isn’t the average baby as form what I see, she has a mind of her own, like she is on her own planet all the time. It is also cute to see what the duo does to her and how Wanda and Darryl treat her.
This is the ultimate reason I love Baby Blues. The characters have a sense of humour, and this most probably really happens in an American family, the grocery shopping, the birthday parties and whatever else. May Baby Blues life long.

Facebook

Facebook. The social networking site that probably has more visitors than any other site in the World Wide Web per day. Most people around the world are addicted to the major site, without it, their day wouldn’t be complete. I was once a FF – Facebook Fanatic. I started Facebooking not long ago, on the 4th of March 2008. Up till now, I have 359 friends. Here’s my journey through Facebook.

2008. The year I created a Facebook account finally after hearing it about it from many different sources. In that year, I was in Primary 5 and was addicted to Facebook for at least half the year. I would be making use of the applications, taking quizzes, or playing games. To me at that time, Facebook was just another game site as then, I did not have many friends on that extraordinary site.

2009. The year I took my PSLE. For the first half of the year, visiting Facebook was normal but not long later in that year, I had paused using it as I had to prepare for the major exam that was coming up. However, after the exams, Facebook became my best friend. I used to visit that amazing site everyday without fail. It was like being in prison. I wrote on walls, sat around and did nothing and got poked by people I didn’t even know.

2010. It was the year that changed my Facebooking history. I had tried to stop using Facebook as much as usual. I stopped using the Facebook applications. All I did if I went on that site was to write posts or like links. However, it was also the year when my Friend List bloomed. I added many other people, probably because before that they weren’t on Facebook before this. Eventually, I rarely visited that site, but if I did, I was sure to have a good reason to do so. Nevertheless, the website became my best buddy again during the holidays due to the fact that I had nothing better to do

2011. This year.  I still don’t frequent that site daily, but instead weekly, as I feel it is very time consuming. Facebook to me now is like the place I can go when I am bored, as by reading my friends’ updates, their posts and liking new links I feel alive and animated after that.

Overall, I feel Facebook is like a jungle. Once explored, you will know what it is about. You can also get knowledge, like in the jungle you can learn about the animals and creatures. You can also get sucked in and addicted, just like being lost in a jungle.
Thank You, Mark Zuckerberg for Facebook.
This post means no offense to Facebook in any way.

An Unusual Day

Last Saturday was the most unusual day I ever experienced in my life. It started out when I was walking to the bus stop to catch a bus to school to attend my CCA. While walking, I realised my Ez-link card was not in my wallet. It was surprising as I rarely take it out and the last I remember removing it from my wallet was 2 weeks ago to top it up. So, I went all the way home to get it and still could not find it. Then I rechecked everywhere again and finally found it in the bag I was carrying all along. What a waste of time!
The next weird thing that happened was when I was taking the escalator up when a guy standing in front of me wanted to jump from the escalator I was standing on to the next one but luckily his friend talked him out of it. I wonder what would have happened if he had actually attempted it!

After that, I saw an unusually fat man while walking. He wasn’t fat in breadth instead, his belly was sticking out just like Homer Simpson. It made me wonder for a second that maybe he was a pregnant lady that only dressed like a man!
When I carried on walking, I noticed an amazing tall man. At first I thought it was normal because I am shorter than most adults but then I realised this tall Chinese man was humongous after comparing him with other adults. Moreover, he was carrying a basketball. Maybe he was the great Yao Ming in disguise, you never know!
The last unusual event that took place was really epic. While in the car with my family, heading to my grandparents’ house, I saw the wreckage of an accident that had took place earlier. It was a big white Rolls Royce that crushed a bright yellow Ferrari. What I felt was unusual about it was that it is very rare to see a Ferrari and a Rolls Royce in Singapore. But at that time, I saw it together and in an accident too. Hopefully the owners had bought insurance or else...
BTW: This isn't the one I saw

Birthdays

Birthdays. The day celebrated by people around the world to commemorate their birth. My birthday was not long ago, in fact, it was only 12 days ago, on the 8th of January. By the way, if you are wondering what is so special about my birthday, the great Elvis Presley was also born on th 8th of January. Despite the fact that I did not have a party, I still enjoyed my special day this year. Here's all the events that took place:

1 week before my birthday - 31/12/10 - New Year's Eve
To celebrate my birthday, my family and I went to New York New York, a restaurant, not the actual city, for dinner. To my surprise, the service there was the same as usual, despite it being New Year’s Eve. After having a wonderful meal, it is customary that people have dessert. Thus, I ordered the ‘Mud pie’ – mud moulded together in a pie shape, but in this case it was chocolate. The over-chocolaty treat was just amazing; it could have become heaven to chocoholics. After that scrumptious meal, we carried on with our yearly tradition of watching the countdown party on TV.

Birthday week – 8/1/11
Finally, after another 365 days comes my birthday again. On this very wonderful day, my family along with the birthday boy, me, went to Swensen’s for some ice cream favourites such as my all time favourite, a cup of the sensational sticky, chewy chocolate ice cream engulfed with hot fudge. To me, there is no word in the English language to describe how much I love it, in fact, I would even marry it. Fast forward a few hours, and I am at home together with my family cutting my ultimate extraordinary Black Forest birthday cake with fudge oozing out of it as the knife pokes though it. It was as if I were killing the cake and it started to bleed fudge. It was like the cake was for a King. Also, at the end of the day, I also checked my Facebook wall and was elated to see all the birthday wishes from all my friends.

So, that sums up what I did on my 14th birthday. All the fun and excitement are all over now, but I can’t wait for next year. The countdown begins, 353 days to go.

Fun fact of the day: this year JULY has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays and amazingly, this only happens once every 823 years. This is called money bags. According to chinese Feng Shui, this is a very lucky year and month.
